Transport Links

Gomshall is served by its own railway station on the North Downs Line linking Guildford and Reading to the west and Dorking, Redhill and Gatwick to the east. Redhill, Dorking and Guildford offer services to London. The A25 runs through Gomshall offering convenient east – west travel and easy access to the M25 and A3. This makes access to Heathrow, Gatwick and London straightforward by car.

Education

Shere C of E and Peaslake free school are the most accessible options for younger children. Both are well regarded locally. For older students, state schools, The Ashcombe School in Dorking and George Abbot in Burpham have a good reputation. In the private sector Cranleigh School, the High School and Royal Grammer in Guildford and St Catherines in Bramley are all highly regarded. Guildford hosts The University of Surrey, Law School and vocational colleges.

Local Attractions

Beechanger adjoins footpaths and bridleways that lead to miles of open woodland and heathland on The Hurtwood. This area joins with Blackheath and Farley Heath to form one of the largest areas of open access land in the South-East a Mecca for walkers, cyclists and horse riders, including Leith Hill, Pitch Hill and Holmbury Hill.

The Tillingbourne stream runs through Gomshall and Shere passing through Gomshall Mill, now converted to a characterful country pub. This historic listed building is one of many in both villages.

Shere is a popular destination in its own right, known for its charming high street, 12th century church and regular appearances in films and TV. Denbies Wine Estate, located a short drive away in Dorking, is one of the largest wine producers in the UK and offers vineyard tours, tastings and events throughout the year. The North Downs way runs along the ridge above Shere to Newlands Corner, a well-known viewpoint, and passes The Silent Pool, a spring fed lake steeped in local folklore but now well known for its gin distillery.

Entertainment

Traditional pubs and country inns form the backbone of the local social scene, with establishments like The Gomshall Mill, Hurtwood Inn (Peaslake) and William 4th (Little London) within easy walking distance. Guildford is about 20 mins drive and a major cultural centre. Dorking, a similar distance, is a centre for antiques, traditional shops and a popular farmers’ market. It also has a cinema and theatre.
